ROPE Language Reference - "$ip_id"

The "$ip_id" register contains the idetification nunber from the packet being inspected. This is a read-only, integer register.

RFC_791 describes this value like this..

Identification:  16 bits

 An identifying value assigned by the sender to aid in assembling the
 fragments of a datagram.
