Obtaining Pre-Built Rope Software
I may well be able to build you a "rope-enabled" linux kernel and iptables utility, depending on the version of linux you are using. If you would like me to do this for you, then please send an email to me at chris@lowth.com, with details of..
- The linux kernel version and platform type you want built (output of "uname -a")
- The iptables software (output of "iptables --version")
- The version of ROPE you want (if not the most recent).
- The use to which the pre-built software will be put - whether "personal" or "commercial".
- An indication that you agree to the terms outlined on this page.
The Process
Your email to me will kick off a process that will work like this..
- I will respond to your request with some additional questions. Please allow me at least a week to respond.
- We will exchange information and thoughts (and possibly some files) over email, and once I have all the information I need, I will provide you with a cost.
- You should agree to the cost via email (if indeed, you do agree) within 14 days, and pay the agreed sum into my PayPal account.
- I will attempt to perform the build you requested and will inform you of it's success or failure.
- If the build fails, I will refund you the sum you paid me.
- If the build was successful, I will provide you with the built software via a link on my website.
Terms And Conditions
General
- The software is provided under the terms of the GPL. In particular, please take note of the sections in the GPL that contain the disclaimer.
- I reserve the right to decline the request for any reason at any time during the process. If payment has already been made, I will refund it to you.
- The payment you make is for the work (my time and use my equipment) involved in compiling the kernel and iptables with the "rope" software embedded. You are not buying the software from me - although I will provide it to you once the work is complete.
- The payment is for a one-off task. It does not include the repetition of the work to cover future versions of linux, iptables or rope. These must be agreed and paid for separately.
- I will test the software on my own systems, and will refund the sum payed if it doesnt work for me. However - the cost is NOT refundable if the software works for me, but does not susequently work on YOUR system (remember: you are paying for my time, not for a piece of software).
- The quote is valid for 14 days from the time I post it to you.
- The quote I provide is dependant on accuracy of any information and/or files you provide me.
- The files I provide you with do not become your sole property, but you agree that I can supply them to other customers who have the same requirement as you, or that I publish them on the website for free download in future.
- As specified in the GPL, the entire risk of using the software I provide you with at the end of the work you pay me for is yours and yours alone.
- The following restrictions apply to the version of the kernel and iptables I will agree to build..
- The linux kernel will be from the 2.4 or 2.6 versions.
- The platform must be one of the intel i386 family of CPUs (or equivalent).
- The platform must not be SMP-enabled (multi-CPU) because Rope is currently for use only on single-CPU systems.
- The source code is a "pure" version, downloaded directly from the relevant project web sites. I will not normally be able to work with distribution-specific versions or otherwise "hacked" versions (the IpCop platform is the sole exception to this rule).
- You must be able to supply me with the ".config" file for the linux version you require (I may be able to assist you in locating this file).
- I may be able to add additional netfilter modules other than "rope" if your require, but there will be an additional cost associated with this activity.
