Chris Lowth works as a UK-based consultant and software solutions architect/developer specialising in... Network management solutions using the EMC Ionix product line, in particular: Smarts. Architecture, Design and implementation of bespoke software integration solutions. Teaching / training / technical mentoring. Linux kernel and tool development and security. • Design and development of "Rope" - a freely available Linux kernel module that provides extensible firewall scripting logic for "IPTables". This project has been suspended temporarily due to pressure of work, but I hope to restart it shortly.
• Extension of the linux "file" utility to identify the "mime" type of files. (Try running "man file" on any Linux system to find my name in the "HISTORY" section).
• Redevelopment and clean up of RiverSoft's event handling rule set, and the language and parser used to generate them.
• Development of the EMC Smarts Perl API library while working for Intercai Mondiale. This development was undertaken "unsolicited" by Smarts and presented to the company as a completed project. It is now a standard part of the Every Smarts installation.
• Design and development of a Web-enabled dashboard for the Smarts range of products - now part of the standard Smarts product distribution.
• Development of a bespoke event registration, booking and admission system for the Lark-In-The-Park community project.
  • I also lead a team of 15 volunteers who "man" the system.
  • The system is written in Perl, uses the "Tk" tool set for the GUI presentation, Runs on RedHat linux using a single high-powered server and a number of old low-power laptops (donated by local schools and businesses) using VNC to act as dumb graphics terminals.
• Research and development of a stock price momentum analysis technique, based on the precepts of "Volume Spread Analysis" and the work of Richard Wyckoff and Tom Williams. I call the technique "Volume Spread Mapping", but this is still a work in progress and is not yet ready for public release.
• Assisting with the testing and quality assurance of recent "TradeGuider" products.

I first encountered the phenomena that is Chris Lowth during my tenure at SMARTS where we engaged Chris's organisation (Intercai) to undertake outsourced professional services work on our behalf. I have had the pleasure of knowing Chris and working with him since the 1990s when I was Director of the SI Division at Getronics (formerly Olivetti). Chris regularly demonstrated his development and integration skills as the most talented person in our largest banking client.
